Help with 1989 4Runner

Please help. I ahve a 1989 4Runner that was running great before tonight. I went to start it up and it is looping (800 rpm to 1300 rpm) and running rough. In fact I probably can not drive now because it is running soooo rough. Is it the infamous headgasket or maybe a quick fix and help would be great. Thanks.

It is a V-6. I talked with a Toyota tech and he said could be the throttle indicator or something like that.

Check for a vacuum leak. My runner had similar problems and it turned out the EGR valve was broken and I couldnt see the break.

Problem with the AFM in the top of the airbox can cause stumbling, and engine will stall when you try to take off.

Are there any other symptoms like noises, smoking, check engine light?

I experienced the same thing on my 94 Acura Integra.

I ignored it because I am an idiot and still drove it everyday.

Now she is dead! It ended up being the head gasket and coolant leaked into the engine causing hydrolock. She is going to cost more to fix than she is worth so I am donating her to some charity.

I'm not saying that it's the headgasket for sure, but it is a possibility especially given the headgasket problems.
