I am an absolute newbie. Really grateful to have this forum to look at, so thanks to everyone.

I did do a few searches through the forum, but I couldn't find a specific answer I'm looking for relating to the head gasket recall.

**Background: I have an 89 2wd pickup with the 3vze engine. I've read elsewhere that Toyota wound up ending the recall for the 88/89 engines in 1997. I also understand that the recall still exists for the 90-95 models.

***Main Question: Should I still be concerned about the head gaskets for this particular model year or is it in the clear?

Never really in the clear, they don't last forever. Of course, any engine could have a head gasket failure if allowed to overheat.


You just want to make sure you don't let your coolant break down or overheat. Be sure to not just replace, but a full flush. Basically, you gotta baby the cooling system a little. But if you keep it up, you'll have little chance of a failure.
