Head Gasket Advice

1987 22RE Head gasket went out again. I know i should have had the head milled back in september too late. Looking for advice on head gasket and bolts. What have you put in ARP studs or new bolts or reuse old bolts? PROS V. CONS. Gasket type? Engnbldr, Toyota, NAPA ? Is there anything else i should look at as long as i've got it apart? Thanks

Don't think you can go wrong with engnbldr's stuff.

I just did mine with engbldr stuff and it was a very nice set. I bought one that came with new bolts for $60 + $12 shipping. I did like you though and did not mill the head. I think that it is going to fail as it is already/still smoking big time. In my case though the bottom end is old and tired too and I just couldn't see putting money into the top end only. Figured I'd take a $60 roll of the dice that it would get me another 6-12 months before a full rebuild but it looks like no go, so it's time to start gathering parts for a proper build up.

You should not need studs. just get some new bolts. Corteco white seal head gaskets are currently at the top of the list. only cost about $25 shipped.

Metal backed timing chain guides should be installed when you do this. I would change the front crank seal as well

resurface the head for sure
