grinding sound?
allright as some of you know i JUST got my 5.29's installed the other day, on the way to work, no issues or super loud sounds (no carpet or anything loud anyways) but on the way home i started noticing a grinding sound only when i let off the gas?, i thought ahhh jeez here we go, so i got it home n tore it apart but the third's is fine, i thought the backlash wasent set right or he didint tourq the spanner nuts..(yeah i was so excited i forgot to look it over..) its all re-installed and i noticed my D-shaft is bent, but besides that do you guys have any other ideas? my front bearings are new with new nuts and lock washers, also my T-case output flange JUST barely moves..is it suppose to? thanks for the idea's

Your sure its a direct "Grinding" Noise? The bent drive shaft i'm sure its causing vibration and needs replacing. Is you front end SAS or IFS? One of the axles in 2wd may be trying to engage if its IFS... jack up truck and check to see if the axle is locked with the wheel. Possibley when the bearings were done the hub was not put on right. Pilot and or throw out bearing? Its hard to say what it is.... rear wheel bearings? Something rubbing..... On your T-case well.... it is supose to be tight atleast new.... but over time there is wear.... if its moving just a hair then its not big deal but if its moving about a 1/4 inch or more............. then theres and issue....

well the fronts out, they both spun freely without the axles spinning, only prob i found was the pass side tie rods are SUPER toasted, i new they were pretty bad but took some force to move the tire, now it bounces back n fourth

i fixed it!, the grinding sound when i let off the gas im assuming was the u joints, i bought a brand new old D-shaft, put some new u joints in it (PAI!!!!!!!) and bam NO NOISE, i thought for sure it was somthing els, and to top that my u joints dont even feel bad, they still rotate freely and have no play? but hey its fixed im happy like clam

grinding noise....again
ive got an omanant grinding noise that only happens when im coasting with very little throttle allmost none at all, if im off the throttle nothing and on the throttle nothing, new gears and bearings out back (yes the gears are noisy but thats not it) and new u joints, only other thing i can think of would be tranny or xfer case, im shooting for the xfer cuz i recently changed all the fluids and the xfer had lots o water, you guys agree? would there be a bearing or bearings i could replace, or should i just get another xfer? maybe 4.7's would be a better idea seing i would have to take the xfer completely apart anyways? whats your opinions please!

Its never good to get water in the trans and can cause premature gear wear..... you change fluid in trans and t-case. remember its 2 spearate units with their own oil. You said when coasting does that mean trans in neutral and rolling? Or highspeed steady speed coasting?

its when coasting while in gear at really any speed, not completely off the gas..and yeah i know the trans and xfer are seperate but the trans didint have any water, just the xfer
