The Great Swapathon! Clint's 90 Xtra Cab buildup
#21
hey guys, I need some opinions here...
I found and am working on a trade of some sort for another parts truck.
here she is:

only thing is, it was hit on the right side:

damage to the floor:

cowl:

note the seam has split there, is it just the caulking? is that damage purely cosmetic?
one of the reasons I want this truck:

another few reasons: (5spd/SR5/V6)

how hard to fix this?

well, OPINIONS of all kinds would be GREATLY appreciated!!! is this thing fixable?
and a few things I took note of while I was snooping around the truck. The pinch weld underneath the floor there is not bent or rusty at all. the damage on the roof is the result of a fork lift, not from the accident. the truck has every option but an automatic trans. has 4.56 gears and was built in 10/90. it has 260k miles on it. interior is rough, but I think it would clean up decently. I saw both the fenders from the truck, and even the passenger fender is salvageable. it was dented but not creased or crushed.
and the only other concern I had was when I opened the hood, the hinge on the driver's side was a little spongy. the caulking there wasn't broken, but the whole hinge seemed to flex a small amount. do you think that maybe the entire cowl suffered minor damage and that the weld was broken? cowl sidewall seemed solid and didn't move.
If I could trade the scrap yard pretty much part for part, do you think its worth it? 3.0 for 3.0, auto for manual, blue dlx interior for gray sr5 interior, 4.10's for 4.56's (I'd keep the gear set I have swapped on right now), ok cab and cowl without a sunroof for an ok cab and cowl with a sunroof.
OPINIONS OPINIONS OPINIONS!!!!
thanks guys!!!

That junk yard cab looks pretty beat up. You may have a very difficult time with quarter panel fit, hood fit and door fit, in addition to all the rust that is likely there. The damage you showed to the floor is also something that may need to be pulled out by a body shop. Probably not impossible, but maybe a ton of work to get it all done right.
Definately easier to add a sunroof to your existing cab.

well, I've been sitting on it, and have thought and thought about it. I must have looked at the pics about a million times, and I've decided to pass the cab up.
however, I'd still like to get the whole truck and take it home, chop out what I want (tranny, clutch setup, sunroof, entire wiring harness, gears for a different pickup I have, one of the sr5 door panels, and maybe the instrument cluster for good luck).
I will be in contact with the wrecker, and am going to try and work out a deal with him. the cheapest 5 speed conversion I've found to date was in Ohio, and that was $750 for the whole shibang. if I could pull this truck off the yard, take everything I wanted, paid like 250 bucks, and swapped my old stuff back in, that'd be ideal. then the only thing I would really need to track down yet for my SR5 conversion would be the buckets, another door panel, and the center console.
opinions are still welcome!

yeah, I agree after looking more closely. it also appears that the truck suffered some unspoken structural damage. why else would it be there? bed was good, and even the fender was salvagable (gonna buy it for my other truck actually haha). so if everything else was ok, it just needed a new door, a little work on the floor there, and some work on the fender. I think the cowl took it tough...
