Rebuilt motor and installation. That price sounds rediculous to me and I have a mechanic or two in my family who say thats rediculous. How much have you guys payed fro you rebuilds? What was the motor price and what was the labor?
I'm seriously considering picking up

Swapping in a new motor ain't cheap and sometimes you have to weigh the cost - but $6800 is nutty.

Actually that is pretty close to a complete rebuild with all new timing parts, oil pump, water pump, and other goodies. That is why I do 3.4l swaps(on my personal vehicls). That is the hardest thing about working at a dealer, You have to talk some people out of doing the work because the vehicle is worth less then the repair. When your vehicle gets to "that age" you are better off learning how to work on it yourself.

I just did a complete rebuild of my engine, new flywheel & clutch, new exhaust, and complete front axle rebuild (new races, bearings & seals) for $3200 and that included buying $1800 worth of reuseable TOOLS!

Yeah see I new that was out of control. He called my dad back later and said he could do a motor with 100,000miles on the clock for $3800 and a 1year warranty. My dad told me and I told him to call him back and tell the mechanic to go ˟˟˟˟˟ himself.

Looks like I'm gonna be doing that crate motor and solid axle swap all at the same time. Probably cost me $5000 in the end to buy the motor, have it sent here, and the axle and motor put in.

$6800 is what I'd expect to pay at the dealer...

Engines for these trucks are expensive as hell. Definitely do it yourself.

My buddies swap:

125$ for a good running 22R with a header(low k's too!, most 22R's can be found anywhere from $75-$300 in good shape)

and 2 hours(mostly labeling vacuum lines and wires), pulled the old motor, dropped the new one in and tada.. running truck again.


My other buddies rebuild:

Blew a head gasket in his 3VZE
Tore it down in a couple hours
Got everything machined, cleaned and every surface redone $350ish
Rebuild kit off ebay $360 at his door(pistons, seals, bearings gaskets etc..)
New AISIN waterpump $95



So he spent around $800 on a rebuild, and has essentially a new motor, All done with a big thick Toyota manual and a 60$ socket/wrench set.. and alot of labeling of wiring and vacuum lines.

Get real fella, that is a good quote for a quality job with a warranty. You should go do somthing to yourself with your father. The love that shops get from this site is unreal, I'm not going to come here anymore. Yota tech is not Toyota Master Diagnositc Tech friendly.

I hope your 125k $3800 engine blows a head gasket

Buy a 3.4 or swap in a 350 imho. You want another 3.0 I can get you a place that will do it cheap but its gonna be a junkyard motor.

I have no idea what your talking about. I didnt list the shop or the kind of engine or even say that I was putting in the motor with 100k. You sir need to stop smoking crack. You live in Denver and I live in NJ, I'm sure you know the quality of the work and personality of the mechanics 2000miles away. Get real and stop trolling forums stupid.

Looking into a 350. I was offered a running motor for $200 with an aftermarket cam and I know where I can get the bellhousing for $100.

The majority of the cost ain't in the motor, or getting it bolted into the frame... :-)

Yeah I'm on the fence right now. If it wasnt for the wiring I'd go 3.4 but I'm gonna keep looking into it. I'm still considering going with a Jasper crate because the mechanic that is going to do my SAS and install says that their warranty is a no questions asked deal. I could throw another rod and they would replace it no problem. I'm 90% sure I'm ruling out diesel (I wish...) and a SBC because I can just see how bad I'll get nickled and dimed.

Lol CJM looks like we're not getting together to wheel until the truck is built...

I think I might just drop the dough and have the jasper dropped in and SAS done at the same time. I hope my third member and IFS wheel hubs get here soon. That axle housing is getting impatient.

PS: I cant wait to see that T100 I love that truck its the perfect size.
