I have rebuild my 22RE, put a mild cam and header on it and it does not have more power than before, if even more power at all. So I am trying to investigate. I installed a new fuel filter on the the engine but was wondering if there is one in the tank itself. I am thinking it might not get as much fuel as it wants to.

 

welcome to the world of toyota engines... you can drop 10k into one and it will still not have as much power as you NEED!

and you cant really spray (no2) cause youll grenade it.

turbos have lag and still dont improve much.

but s/c is the way to go. expecially on the 3.4

 

I say you need to turn the AFM some clicks..

 

The power I NEED is to go up a small hill doing 70 and not slow to 55 in 4th gear with it floored... I don't think I am asking too much.

The AFM is a good point. However I checked the vacuum and it is spot on with it still set to factory.

So is there a fuel filter in the tank before the pump? And how hard is it to get to?

 

Well if you adjust the afm you can get the efi to dump some more fuel..
Just be realllly careful messing with that thing.

EDIT: There is a tiny filter on the pump, But I doubt it has anything to do with your problem

Also with the cam you may need to jump up the timing a bit..

 

You can also put in a variable resistor(rheostat) spliced into the THW wire before it goes into the ecu. It'll broaden the injector pulse by tricking the ecu into thinking it's running cooler, or something like that. Also if you do this it's smart idea to install an AFR gauge.

Actualy what's in the tank is called a "sock", it's more like a screen, keeps out larger pieces of rust and junk.
