Fuel Filter Compression Nut Destroyed

Fuel Filter Compression Nut Destroyed
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and wrenching. I have a 1992 Pickup 3.0 V6 with 265,000 miles that I have been tuning up. Everything has gone well until I just recently when I got to pulling the fuel filter. The compression nut on the engine side of the line was cross-threaded into the filter and was a serious pain to remove. In the process I stripped the hex head (yes I used line wrenches) and observed that the threads were destroyed. Anyway to get it off I ended up cutting the fuel line about 6" up the line towards the motor expecting that NAPA or CarQuest would have the parts I need to repair it. They don't and Toyota is telling me it'll be close to a week and $100 for a new line.
My question is: What is my best option? Salvage yard? Is there anything I need to be careful of when pulling a line from a salvaged vehicle (our salvage yard is a pull-your-own type place and I really don't want to destroy another in the process.
Thanks

Been there, done that
The lines are notoriously hard to break loose due to location and because so many neglect to change the filter (again the awkward location). The line from my Toyota stealership was a reasonable $40-45 MSRP price for front line or the rear, (filter-to-tank.) If you are keeping the truck, a good investment. The fitting is not readily available, but I had a repair line on mine (5/16 steel line flared using original nut to the filter and flowing to a compression fitting on the cut end toward the engine)
It's worth the money to get a solid pressure line from the Dealer imnsho, soak the forward connection in PB thrice a day until the line shows up local. Lots of solvent and time, lots of time......Coating the new connections with anti-seize when done....not a bad idea, wish the PO of my truck did done that..
