Fuel delivery problems

I have an '89 P/U, 22RE, 5spd, 4X4(of course). I just replaced the fuel pump, and it still won't start. I still don't have fuel to the engine. I tried the old pump and found it still worked. All electrical and line connections have been reconnected properly, but it still isn't going.

Any suggestions?

Check for voltage at the fuel pump connector. The little pigtail from the fuel pump to the harness is known to go bad. Any decent Toyota mechanic will replace that wire when replacing the fuel pump.

Also, you could be having issues with the circuit-opening relay, which is part of the fuel pump circuit.

You can check the operation of the fuel pump using 2 different methods. With the key on, engine off (check engine light should be on), short the fuel pump test connector. You should hear the pump working. Another method is to manually open the air flow meter by hand (key on engine off, same as the 1st method). This will engage the fuel pump as well. Keep us updated.

Have you changed the fuel filter? Try cracking a fuel line before the rail and ensure that you have pressuried fuel there...

Was this a sudden thing? Were you on the trail and maybe pinched a fuel line with a rock or branch?

It could be the ECU i guess??? try reseting it by pulling the ECU fuse and letting it sit for a while.

Is there a fuse for the fuel pump? I know in my 99 ford there was a fuel pump cutoff circuit that would shut the pump off in a wrech, I havent seen anything like that on my toys but there might be one.

hopefully that helps...its pretty simple stuff but hopefully something silly was overlooked...

I tried cracking the fuel lines (both delivery and return), and with key on/engine off, I got no fuel out of the line. I also checked voltage at the wire, with no voltage read. I tried to pull the EFI fuse out of the box and check that with the meter. I didn't get anything through that, either, but I don't have a flow chart to see which way the 'trons go through it. The guy I bought if off of said that it sputtered like it ran out of gas and quit. He put more gas in, but it wouldn't restart.

Deffinatly sounds electrical. I would get a wiring diagram and trace the wiring from the pump fwd to see where the problem is. Could be something as simple as a loose ground. Do either of the two methods to get the pump running and work away. Eventually you should find a bad ground/broken wire/blown relay/ or something like a little gnome pluging and unplugging the connection :xmas4:

Rodger that on the gnome...good thing I work a day job at a shooting range. I'll blast that little SOB to next tuesday! Check me tomorrow night, I'll follow up with continued trouble shooting. Thanks for the info's.
