Front Parking Brake Cable...

Front Parking Brake Cable...
My front parking brake cable snapped right before the L-shaped bracket that operates the rear cables. I would clamp it but that part of the cable is a bit rusty and I think it would just snap again. The dealer wants $65 for a replacement cable. Has anyone jury rigged something with the same diameter cable but from a spool? Cable is substantially cheaper at hardware stores. I also work in a bikeshop so I can get some longer tandem bicycle cables, but don't know if that would work. Looking for some suggestions...

You might want to check out wire at a sailing supply source. Also check out swage fittings. I may redo my e-brake. So, I've been thinking about this a bit and I might use some sailing hardware. Check out wire here: http://www.apsltd.com/Tree/d3000/e621.asp . They have fittings at APS too.

Thanks for the link snorkel. Im gonna take another look at it this week and see if it is clampable, but I also put some e-mails in to some of the better known Toyota parts yards. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I just did my front cable, it was a minor P.I.T.A. not too bad though. I bought the rear cable as well, which I haven't done yet. I say just save yourself the hassle and buy it from the dealer.
