So I purchased a front bumper for my rig but it won't mount up because of some dents from a previous accident. I took it to a local frame shop that quoted me $750 for the repair. Is this a reasonable price? If so, what are some cheaper more cost effective ways I could fix this dent or get my bumper to mount securely?

 

Weld some new attachment points for the bumper or drill new holes in the crossmember?

It seems if you could install the bumper or do what was needed you would .

Many different ways to approach this problem.

Pull the dent out yourself

build and install your own cross member

Take a piece of 4"x4" L 1/4" or 3/8" drill the bumper mounting holes and weld the angle to the front cross member keeping things level and square.

I am sure I could come up with a few more .

Basically, the reason the bumper doesnt fit flush is because of the raised top portion. It makes the right side of the bumper not seat levelly along the top of the cross member. As a result, the right side bolt holes dont line up enough to fit the bolt into the holes.

Basically, if the top portion of the cross member was level, it would probably all bolt up normally except for maybe one hole, which would be fine.

Basically, the cross member dent (seen in red) is causing it to sit at an off angle (seen in blue)


One solution I have is to cut the winch plate out where the dent is. But I fear this would effect the integrity of using a winch.

 

heat it up and hammer it down. easy cheesy
