front end rattle

Ok, Im stymed. I have been trying to figure out a rattle in the frontend toward the wheels. Everytime I hit a bump it rattles. I have replaced idler arm and steering stabalizer, checked out the ball joints and A arms...Im stuck?!
Any suggestions helpful.
Also, Im getting alot of creaking on slow full turns Backing up and forward. That can't just be from the stops can it??
Thanks all
Tom

i would guess the creaking on full turns probably is your steering stops...you can try greasing them really good and see if it goes away (for a couple of days).

there was another guy on the board asking about rattling from the front when going over bumps.

my truck does this too sometimes...has ever since i bought it 25,000 miles ago.

i've checked the whole front end repeatedly...rebuilt the idler arm, repacked my wheel bearings, greased my ball joints, rebuilt my calipers, new pads, etc. etc....

don't have any play anywhere. truck tracks straight as an arrow...even under full braking.

i beat it fairly hard offroad...never broke anything in the front...rattling hasn't gotten worse...

i think it's just a truck...and, therefore, it has some rattles.

one rattle i did get rid of, though, came from one of the bolts holding on my skid plate rusting away, so the plate was only being held on by three bolts. when i fixed that, the rattling got significantly less. you might want to check into that.

if you ever do find the source of the rattling, post what it was...there are at least a couple of us who would like to know.

The rattle could be the spindle bushings, mine was rattling before I replaced them

Dust shields on brakes ??

Does the "rattle" have a tingle-like sound to it?? If so, you may have a collasped shock/strut which would be visible to the naked eye.

I am plagued by the front end rattling as well. I even went as far as to replace the lower control arm bushings (what a nightmare that was), to no avail. My tie rods and idler have been replaced a few times, so we can rule that out. I am suspecting something in the upper control arm (bushings perhaps). Honestly, I have given up on trying to track it down.

As for the awful noise you make when making tight turns, it is your steering stops. Smearing grease on all of them (4) will cure that creaking sound for months.

It sounds like your front inner spindle bearing...jack the front end up and hold the actual wheel steady and reach in and wiggle the cv joint near the spindle...if it has play in it...the inner spindle bushing is bad.

I know this may sound crazy, but check to see if you have your anti rattle clips in your front brake calipers. This could be the cause of the rattle, when you go over bumps its the pads rattling.

As a matter of fact, last time I was pokin' around under there I noticed that both of my cv's had some play in them. Would that explain why the rattling noise seems to go away when I'm in 4wd?
