Hello,
I have done some browsing but haven't quite found what I was looking for. I can tell this is common so it's probably an easy diagnostic. When I'm out in the field or on bumpy ground, I get a clanking rattle when I have my wheels turned. Doesn't do it when I'm driving or on smooth surfaces. Doesn't seem to matter whether it's in 4x4 or not. If I turn sharp and it's bumpy it's pretty well guaranteed to happen. Not a clicking. More of a clanking rattle like something is loose.
So, I figured probably U-joints. Would that be the most likely? Or possibly ball or cv joints?
93 pickup with 130k.

It is the steering bump stops. This is answered at least once a week. try a google search.

I figured it was common 2door but apparently I didn't search enough to find it. Thank you for the information.

check your sway bar bushings. mine was making a thud noise on bumps when the wheel is turned and my sway bar was way loose

Hey 93 I hear that clanking/ratcheting/grinding sound when cutting the wheel hard left or right.Twodoor is right,its steering bump stops or is in my case.
