Front driveshaft making jingle noise

Tldr, jingle noise gone when front driveshaft removed

Hi all, my 94 extra cab 'hilux' (I'm in Aus) has been making a jingle sound that varies with speed which is also present with the engine off - ie when rolling.

I took the front driveshaft out and the noise is gone. The flange nuts look tight. I also note the add system seems to be locked on and the front driveshaft always turns before I removed it.

Is it possible for the driveshaft to make noise like that? It sounds like a bolt or washer is jingling around inside something. I would appreciate your views on what might be causing this. I would not have thought it was the prop shaft itself making the noise.

I was going to guess maybe the dust shields on the drive flanges. Sometimes they get loose or dented and sound like a bell when they touch something. But, you eliminated that if it stopped when you pulled the drive shaft.

I'd say check the U-joints for being worn out and loose or seized from a dry joint. Maybe a crack in the tube? Or actually something loose inside like you said it sounds like. (weld slag?)

If you leave the front hubs locked when you drive (drive shaft removed) does it still have the noise?
