Front Blinker Wiring Help! on 1986 22RTE pickup

Hey guys,

This last week I decided to pull my engine for a rebuild. While it’s out I’m getting around to the small stuff… One of which is getting my front blinkers wired up. Attached is pictures of both of the front blinkers wiring. My plan is to cut in a new two pin connector on both ends. (only problem is I have no idea what I’m looking at haha)

any help would be appreciated greatly.

cheers,

Carlo

Whoa, someone made a mess of that.
those light blue connectors are scotch locks. Sometimes called quick splices. I think they’re horrible and end up causing problems. Even worse when you have a few close together. Really makes a bloated mess of the loom.
That black wire isn’t factory either.
I’d get rid of the black wiring (assuming whatever accessory they powered is now gone) and remove the scotch locks. I prefer solder and shrink tubing, but those connectors that have low melt solder already inside would probably work just as well, and be considerably faster. I believe they’re called solder seal. They come in different sizes depending on the wire gauge, like any crimp connector.

yeah bro you’re telling me haha. So the black isn’t a ground wire then? Am I just crimping the white to connect to the actual blinker?

That white wire isn't factory either.
The green wire coming out of the sleeve (with maybe a yellow stripe) along with the wire next to it, looks oem. After that, lord knows.

I see I see, I tore it out and started crimping the white and green wires.

Stupid question but,

(from harness to indicator)

green -> green
white -> white

or vice versa ? Haha.

Well, I should say white with a black stripe should be your turn signal ground. Green with yellow stripe and green with black stripe should be power depending on which side.
That white wire that's been added could be a ground, but it's messy. I'd remove it and start over.
It's worth clarifying that the turn signals(blinkers) are in the front bumper. The lights on the corner of the fender/grill are clearance lights that do not blink. Two different things.
Odd to splice into the front turn signals. Was this vehicle towed behind another vehicle?

Blue circle is oem looking wire
Red circle is wiring and connectors added on later.

C'mon, you need to use a multimeter (or in this case, a test light might be easier). Hook it up however you think it works, then reach in and try the turn signals, the parking lights, etc. I'd also check the wires to ground, which is probably the frame. (FWIW, on my '94 the truck bed, where the rear lights connect, is NOT at ground. The bed sits on rubber insulators for sound. So there is a separate ground wire run to the lights.)
