So I want to replace my muffler on my runner because it is stock and has some holes in it from rust. lol.

I was wondering what a good muffler would be?

I want to go with a flowmaster because I have had good experiences with them in the past and they sound sweet.

I wanted a deep tone that has semi characteristics of a muscle car sound. What series should I get?

I love my $40 cherry bomb, its 30'' long and sounds great, nothin too loud.

I just worry about flow, my friend tells me the stock systems can blow up heads over time because they are too restrictive.

I have a Pacesetter on mine, and at idle and low to mid RPMs it's got a deep mellow tone and sounds pretty good I think, but 3k and up kinda sounds ricy... but I also have the WHOLE Pacesetter cat-back kit, not just a muffler

I was looking at flowmaster's website and there is a standard 40 series dual chamber that I think would be good? Or would it not work right? I don't know really much about this.

I put on a 50 series and it sounds good. not too loud but you can tell a difference.

My friend put a 40 series in his truck & it sounded good, but kinda on the loud side.
He put a glasspack in front of it & it mellowed out.
50 series would be a good choice too.

I have a 50 series on mine with a turn down.. it sounds awesome.. er.. well sounded awesome UNTILL i hydrolocked my baby.

The shock ride pretty smooth. I think it was a good choice. The rear MV-12's with the 10 inch are too small (Which is on right now), so I'm getting the next size up.

As for my exhaust, I have to run a cat for smog but I might set it up without a cat and put a 40 series muffler on. My friend did it w/o a cat and a 40 series dual chamber flowmaster muffler and it sounds pretty good. I'd like it to be a little louder but it seems pretty sweet.

I've got a Dynomax muffler on my truck. I like it because it's not too loud for a daily driver but it's certainly a lot louder than stock. When you're on it, it's pretty loud but when driving along highway speeds it's just fine.

hahaha yeah actually i hyrdo locked it in a puddle not to far from the one in that video.. I'm a damn idiot yes i know.. But its all good.. I'm dropping a 3.4 in it and puttin a snorkel on it!

I had a Dynomax Turbo installed with a 2.25" pipe from the cat back about a month ago ('93 4Runner, V6, 5spd). It has a good tone and I've noticed that the truck revs a bit more evenly and it has a bit more power on the low end. It seems to keep speed a bit better going up the hills as well. I'd certainly do this system again.

make sure to run all of your vents up high as well. Transmission, transfer case, diffs, etc.

I think the 40 series is what I'll get.
Is there a 40 series muffler that is made for the 4runner? Or are would any 40 series dual chamber muffler work with my runner?

Also, what size piping should I get?
I'm planning on putting a straight pipe where the cat used to be. But I want to make it to bolt out so I can throw the cat back on in 2 years for smog.

I just replaced the cat back. there is no flowmaster made for the 4runner. a muffler shop can do it no problem. The place i went to did the whole thing with muffler for 245. did good work. they actually replaced my entire tailpipe when the first one they made didn't quite clear right. they were also able to get my tail pipe nice and high under my bumper for better clearance.

As for the cat, just get a high flow cat. then you don't have to deal with it. muffler bolts always seam to rust first, too. lol.
