Wish that was my 1st truck! I got stuck with a 76 Ford F100 Pickup. I love your truck ,, good luck to you and your new love. Do all your research before you do anything try and sort through the crap suggestions and the factual ones.

Where was the noise coming from? and what kind of sound? Grinding? Metalic? Crunching? Also.. if it needs a timing chain, I'd chill out on even running it much untill you replace it! It's alot cheaper to replace just the timing setup then all of the other parts that can get messed up if the chain breaks while it's running...
By the way.. CONGRATS on the new ride.. I think you will find out the longer you stick around this forum that Toyota's CAN'T BE BEAT!!!! I've had my 91 for 10 years now and after I put the new engine in I'll have a lil over 5K invested in EVERYTHING!.. Paint, Wheels, Tires, Interior, Sound system Chrome goodies etc.. the great thing about these trucks is that there are quite a few aftermarket parts out there for them.. Best of luck with the new ride!!

Bodylifts also let you do drivetrain lifts, gas tank lifts, let you mount the bumpers and sliders in a position so they are MUCH stronger, let you do engine swaps while having room (think 3.4 supercharged...)

the other option is to put it up on jackstands, and spin the tire, and count how many times the driveshaft goes around. You'll have to do that for both axles. It should give you an aproximate axle ratio that you can cross refrence with available gearings to figure out what it is. If both driveshafts turn the same amount of times then the gears are the same. Im assuming it drives around fine in 4x2 correct?

yes it does drive around fine in 4x2 but if they are stock gears what would the size be ? also if they are stuck then what size should i get to run 33s or 35s and where would i get them.

if theyre stock the acceleration with either size tire is going to suck. stock gears that were available were 4.10, 4.30, 4.56, 4.88. I believe most of the manuals were 4.10's.

to put you at the same power levels you're gunna need (these are not actual available gear sizes, but calculations) 4.93 for the 33's, and 5.23 for the 35's

1st you need to find out what you have... Jack it up and start rotating the tires...
Paint a mark on your driveline close to the pinion, and rotate the tires 2 revolutions and count... If you spin the tire around 2 times, and the driveline makes about 4 revo's, then you have 4.10, if you spin it twice and the driveline goes around 4 and 1/2, then you have 4.56, if it spins almost 5 times, you have 4.88, a little over 5 you have 5.29, almost six you have 5.71, etc... etc...
Before you think about tires size you need to figure out if its geared for larger tires. If not I would stick with 33's and leave it at that. Also I would refain from any 4x4 until you get the tire size, gear ratio thing figured out. You could potentially end up grenading something in your drivetrain.
