Probably so but there was never a leak before and no rear end noise before that day

The seals were probably on their way out the door when you hit the puddle. Hitting it just made you see what needed to be replaced.

Lucky me! It's just easier to blame that puddle for all the problems and my daughter for suggesting we go through it.

I agree, the engine wasn't rebuilt properly. Probably failed to have the crank checked and/or re-ground.

The launch was at 3,000 and you can kinda hear me hit the rev limiter. Yes rev limiter on the carb'd truck. I have the limiter set at 5750.

This for all you guys who really wanna see me hammer on this engine, hear my exhaust note and why I want that electric fan. :great

I ran 4 times throughout the day got further each time.

Only thing that stopped me was the fact the engine temp hit red line. Due to the high rpm and low air flow over the rad coupled with the mud.

Rebuilt by myself, about 10-12k on the engine at that time using new crank and rods.

Oh ok, I was just looking at those front tires and I guess they just didn't clear at all because they look bald in that pic.

Also all the talk about pan gaskets, doesn't Toyota say to use fpig on the pan, which is in my opinion way better than any gasket when properly applied.

The engine was rebuilt properly. I had gotten the truck from the original owner who had never replaced the motor. The motor had 150k on it and he only changed 3 pistons in the motor. My and my dad spent weeks plastigauging and torquing and retorquing everything on this motor. Te crank was overlooked because I didn't think anything over it. The whole reason I built the motor was because it blew a head gasket and I wanted to see if I could squeeze a smidge bit more power out of it.

Agreed. However mud without the pond on top of it is fun as heck.

Sorry to hear about your failed celebration of a completed build. That bites big time!!!!!

Well looking at 5-6 days of down time. Dropped off the crank today to get cut, which my shop said it'll take about 2 days. The bearings will take a few day to arrive. Then just gotta drop it back in. Total of $ 175 for the crank and bearings

1300 miles on an improperly rebuilt engine? Why are you driving through mud holes and romping on an engine? I would hope your tossing a new set of rings, and having those cyl walls checked as well. And not just hitting them with a hone tool. You never mentioned what you had done with the cyl walls.

1300 miles on a PROPERLY built motor. The only thing overlooked was the crank. I was not romping on the motor as it never went over 4k in RPMs. 1000 miles is what i break all my motors in at. conventional oil change every 250 miles, which always came out clean. Block was hot tanked, bored .50 over, new rings, pistons, rods and the block was decked. Heads have been decked and tanked too along with the plenum and upper intake. There is a whole build thread on it.

Crank is at the machine shop. I never replaced the crank on the rebuild. Turns out the crank was worn down to it's last leg. He had to go over .0300 which is the max for the bearings. He is now welding the crank and then gonna grind it back to stock spec.
