Finally an end to Knock sensor issues, had to cheat it though...

'91 3vze 4x4 205, 000 miles

Replaced sensor and wiring... Still with no releif from my code 52 (it has plagued me for 18 months). ECU was tested in a friends truck and it worked fine.

In case someone else has suffered with a similar problem. Bought a Piezo transducer $2.00 - two alligator clips $4.00 - duct tape (temp) - stuck it to my intake wired it to the ecu and...

NO MORE CODE 52!!!

Sorry, I am a little excited I have power again...

Sorry, server issues at work.
The electrics scare me a little. If you got power back does that mean you bypassed the knock sensor and it's wide open now?

Update. Still working on hard wiring the piezo transducers together. I have 3 little ones in sequence. Not sold on the fix quite yet. I ran into a glitch last week when I had time to work with it. There isn't enough of a signal at idle with just one transducer to maintain the signal to the ecu. Hence 3 transducers now. I borrowed the idea from a Nissan forum.
Hopefully I will be able to finish up tomorrow night...

Bypassing a critical part of the EFI/Ignition system is a terrible idea. If it's not the wiring, and it's not the ECU, then it's the knock sensor. There are only three things that cause code 52...

Wait until summer when you're climbing a hill and the temperatures are high. Detonation can kill a motor quickly. Especially a 3vze with it's inherent headgasket problems.

Very interested in your fix. Even if it's not permanent. If it works just to get the Check Engine light off for smog check, That would be mighty fine!!
