Fan push or pull

Just put my 22re back together and I'm wondering if I got the fan on backwards, I took it off the clutch assembly, its a stock fan on a 88' 4runner. My question is do they push air through the radiator or pull it back toward the engine through the radiator, mine seems to be pulling the air back through the radiator, just wanted to check before I drive it too much, thanks.

Supposed to suck(pull). Like when you're driving down the road and the air is pushing thru the radiator towards the engine. If it were to push from that position you would be working against the air as your driving when your clutch is engaged.

yep; pulls air through the rad and through the grill, into the engine bay

and there's technically no way to put the fan on backwards even if you COULD manage to flop it around and bolt it up, the fan blades would be pointing the same way

might not make any sence, but put a fan blade in your hand, then flop it over... the blades will be angled the same... it's one of those things that really doesn't make any sence when you think about it in your mind, untill you do it yourself and SEE that it does really work, lol

ALL engine driven fans will pull air through the radiator into the engine bay. ALL electric fans mounted on the inside of the radiator will pull air into the engine bay. ALL electric fans mounted to the front of the radiator will push air through the radiator into the engine bay.
