Failed smog. Any tips or suggestions please?

first off if your o2 is older then one year that has to be replaced.

second how old is your cat. if more them five years time to get a new one, but there is a hitch. you need to go to NV to get or you will screw your self with the new laws that changed in 2009. if you get a cat. in cali it must meet obd2 specs. and cost a lot. plus if you use an obd2 spec. cat. then the truck also has to past stricter emissions. I got screwed due to this and now i drive with 09 tags.

Any way for you to get an older cat. you have to go to NV and even then you will need to make it look old. if it looks new you will fail the visual inspection. as the new cat. require a CARB and manufactures serial number.

is your truck a cali or fed truck

and it only matters if you replaced the cat.

I came from NH, failed here, replaced cat from one i brought from NH, fed cat 149.$. Then i passed.

smog high CO% = faild ( help)

i have a 86 4runner SR5 ,22REC ,EFI and it failed smog with a high co% eveything else was good
Lodi,Ca. smog
co2 14.1
o2- 0.0
hc- 105
co- 1.07 failed
no- 411
15mph- 1544 rpm
engine is 3-4 years old since rebuild
oil,air filter is just changed
any options
