Factory paint isn't supposed to crack...

I'm thinking that with the area of the crack, it was bound to happen. There are a few intricate folds in the metal, and they all meet at the crack. I was curious to see if I was the only one.

in these pics i dont see any damage so i would say that your paint is nearing the end of its life. as paint ages it gets brittle as the solvents have almost all escaped. around corners and bends is where it fails first. if you are not planning on having it repaired anytime soon i would fill it full of silicone, it should keep moisture from getting in there and causing it to rust. let us know what you decide to do.
