I am trying to figure out a way to put my sub in a box without taking up all my room in the back. If anyone could post pics of there set up so I can get some ideas. Thanks. This is what I have now.

 

I ended up getting a bazooka off craigslist. I think it is the 200W 10" version. It actually fits quite well behind the drivers seat. It limits me to only 1 passenger in the rear, but that works for me. If need be, I could still put a child's seat in there above the sub (probably not the best idea, of course).

The thing I like most about it is that it is really easy to conceal down there. Throw a moving blanket haphazadly over it when I park at the airport and I have few concerns about it still being there when I get back.

In the future I plan to lift it up a couple of inches and install an amp underneath. I already have the amp, just need the time. The biggest advantage here is that I will still only be using up one passenger's worth of footroom and all of the other advantages above still apply.

Have you seen the commercial sub box that fits between the rear seats and positions the sub exactly where you have it now? Negative concealability, of course, but an elegant solution that does not cost you a passenger spot.

 

Yea I have seen the pre made boxes. I would like to built my own with just wood if I can.

 

I hear all this talk about passengers in the back. I smile and remember what it was like to be willing to cram a 6'+ person in a 3rd gen extra cab. I always thought the seat lets were there for a joke. My dog barely fits back there. I am actually thinking about taking it down to the floor and flattening it out best you can for more dog room.

Oh yea I had an 85 w/2 10's and matching amps in the middle. It looked cool but ZERO extra cab. Free back massage as you drove. I was so awesome once.

 

Luckily my backseat passenger is rarely more than 5'6" and 130 lbs. I know what you mean though, I bought the truck thinking that I would be able to bring more than one person wheeling. Now I think that if I hit anything minor while offroading with a person in the back, they would shortly be wearing the back glass as a hat.

I am considering putting my sub in the storage compartment under the passenger side rear seat. I just need to seal it up good. I already have my amp in the driver side rear compartment.

 

If my bazooka ever gives up the ghost, I think I will use that storage compartment too. It definitely seems like a good option.

 

this is the best option if you want to maximize space. IIRC most 8-10" fit fine in there, but for a 12" you're limited with depth. If you search, you can find a few pics of these setups. I've seen some using the stock cover and others where they just make a new cover from MDF. I dunno how much it needs to be sealed, but you could easily use spray foam to seal off/separate the two sides, around the hump in the floor.

Nice thing about the compartment setup is you can simply flip down the seat and hide the sub when you park somewhere. The opposite smaller compartment is good for your amp.

For the bazooka tube - i'd think you could easily harvest the parts off it and install them?

 

I put a 10" sub into the driver's side compartment with the amp under the passenger seat. I did this about 15 years ago, so I don't have any pictures, but from what I remember I cut the MDF to the same shape as the cargo cover, routed the edges thinner so that it set nearly flush. I cut the subwoofer hole and routed the edges so the sub would sit below the top of the board. I put a piece of expanded metal grate over the sub (to protect it when throwing stuff into the back), then put a light carpet over the top of everything. I used clip-nits around the periphery of the cargo compartment to allow me to bolt the cover down to the compartment. I also tried my best to seal the compartment with calking and expanded foam, but my seal job was pretty sucky. I've heard others laying fiberglass in the compartment to seal it.

It doesn't sound as good as a pre-fabbed box, but it takes up no room in the cargo area.

I have rear speakers under the window compantments now. I would like to put my 12 inch I already have in the passenger side which I know is a smaller compartment but i have my amp and capacitor in the driver side already. But I don't know if a 12 will fit without cutting out metal.

I put my sub in the drivers side cargo area on the floor. The 10" sub was just able to fit there. Think a 12" is too big. Just cut the MDF for the cargo cover to size for the sub and slid it in. Sounds good and I can fold the jump seat down to cover it and hide from would be thieves when it's parked on the street. Works for me and looks really clean.

 

If you are putting the sub under the back driver side seat then where are you putting the amp at?

 

I put the amp under the pass seat but could also go in the rear pass cargo compartment

 

I also have a capacitor too but don't know where to put it. And ideas or pics
