Experience with ingition control module
What is the difference between the 53 and the 65? Other than $200.
Has anyone seen a good after market one?? Thanks

Maybe you need to be a little more specific in your request?
53 and 65 are just numbers to me. And they are not Toyota part numbers even so ....
Are you looking to use an igniter from a different vehicle in yours?
... or what?
... ECU?

Your right I should be more specific. There are two different Ignitors/ingition controle modules that I know of for the first generation 4runners, model 53 and model 65. 65 is about $150 and the 53 is about $350. To me they look the same but I'm sure there is a reason for the price difference.
I don't exactly want to spend the $350 for the 53 model (which is what I have now) if I don't have to. I'm wondering if there is any alternative. Thanks

That still doesn't make much sense to me. I have an 88 4Runner and there are 3 different igniters available for that year alone, so saying there are 2 available for 1st gen 4Runners (which includes mine with 3 different ones) has me lost.

Ive been wondering the samething, alot of the ignitors that ive seen look the same, and the only difference i can see in them is that the plugs are different, but what if you transfered the plugs from your old ignitor to another ignitor of the same type would it work ?, im thinking it would but thats just a guess on my part.

We have the same one. Congratulations by the way on knowing the OEM Number, that is miles ahead of me. It should also have a big 53 on it.
Again, what I'm wondering is if there is a difference between them. There could be more than three for all I know. What concerns me is whether or not there is any electrical difference. Do you happen to know that?

So your igniter would cost 200? When mine went out it was 360 (but found a used one for 80).
88 seems to be a bastardized year- last year for carburetors (my ECU has 22R stamped on it even though it's an RE), different coils, different injectors- saturated / peak-and-hold (mid-model change I suppose), mix match of what's there (left-over) and what's needed (new specs) / prep for the 89's which had a different intake and emissions requirements....

anyone know what year a 19070-35210 is off of I have a spare one...
the dizzy plug is different than what's on my 91 22re, but if I can get away with just modifiying the plug, then I'll keep it, otherwise I'll eBay it

lmao, it may not even be for a pickup; for all I know it could be off a Camery or something; I got it for free from a buddy at a junk yard he's like "yeah there all the same", then I found out the plugs were in fact NOT the same, lol. I should have known better anyway

All the computers in our trucks say 22R on it, my 86 4Runner is the same way, the computer for a 22R carbed engine is mounted in a 4'' square blastic box and looks nothing like a 22RE computer, i know this for a fact because i owned an 84 4Runner with a 22R engine.
