Exhaust Manifold at "intermediate/forward pipe" (aka downpipe) leak

I cannot for the life of me get this leak fixed. I've tried new gaskets and new studs. Ive cranked the piss out of the nuts and even tried jam nutting. I always end up with a small leak. Its ANNOYING. Im getting close to try smearing chimney cement on it or welding the SOB. Any suggestions?

It is essentially a pressure fitting, which hate me...

You'll probably need to attack it with a stiff wire brush, at the minimum, it needs to fit cleanly and even and not over crushed, and of course you only get one chance per gasket they're not supposed to be reused..
