engine rebuild removal.
ok, is it absolutely neccessary to remove the engine when doing a rebuild? ive heard both, but id rather to the rebuild in my driveway w/o a hoist, i figure engbuilders kit off of ebay and some machine work and the confidence of having stuff all done right. but i had a bent rod, what will be trashed? it only ran for about 10 min. at the most w/ the bent rod, just to a parking lot and on to a trailer. thanks
EDIT:: its a 22re 5spd 4x4

The best you can hope for is to jack it up inside the frame. If you don't know the extent of the damage, it's a good idea to pull everything apart and check it all. You don't want to invest a lot of time & $$$ then get it back together & discover you missed something that would have been easy to get to when it was apart....

i dunno about "less than an hour"(maybe if you cut the wiring out?) but it's not hard to pull these engines. rebuilding one would SUCK while it's in the truck! hope you have some icy hot, your stomach and shoulders are gonna be sore after putting everything together in the engine bay!
it's much easier to do it with the engine on a stand.

ok, i can get on base and borrow one, then im thinking about just getting a new truck and parting out this one, i know i could make plenty w/ a part out, but i would love to keep this truck its in great shape. where can i get the 2.7 swap equiptment? AA? Painless wiring? ORS?
Thanks
Thanks
