Electrical Fan Wiring
First of all, I DID a search, but I have been reading the searches off and on all day and can't find the answer yet.
I got a CHEAP (17 dollars) adjustable fan controller at the Crappo Zone this weekend and have it almost wired. Tomorrow I will be getting a relay and finishing up the install. Where do you guys wire into your vehicles electrical system to draw the switched power to make sure the fan goes off when the truck does?
I have been thinking of getting a variable speed controller and S80 fan like in the write up. I have a crappy ill fitting electric fan wired up right now, to a switch. A couple of days ago I heard from my NAPA guy that he was starting to carry the fan mounts for the 3.0 so I got him to get one in for me to look at and I approved. Now I am looking for a fan blade and clutch in the bone yards. I just want this until I can get around to gathering and paying for the parts to go back to the stock set-up.

I'm assuming you're using a relay, if so, you can use just about any switched positive wire to trip the relay. Relays don't use much current to switch them.

Yes, they didn't have the relay on the shelf so he is getting me one overnight. Thanks Dale.
What I mean is, I was thinking of a wire under the hood to tap into so maybe I don't have to run wire all the way into the inside fusebox. Wire is getting expensive. I was thinking maybe the air conditioner compressor wire and was thinking of doing away with the compressor and belt since it doesn't work and I wouldn't ever use it even if it did. Another advantage is I could get a small lighted rocker switch and put it where the A/C switch is in the dash. There is already wire there and if I use the compressor wire saves me about 6 to 8 feet of wire, and a lot of time. I could temporarily use the A/C switch as an on off switch too I think. That way I have the option of turning it off when needed.
Any problems? Other ideas anyone?

If that is the one that is in the write up I would love to have one. I have a cheap one in hand and once I get all the wiring done, and a new shroud and fan, I might just order one. It looks like a solid deal for around the same price as going back to the stock setup.

Humm...something switched under the hood? How about the igniter, it should be switched but I don't know off hand which wire is positive. Do you have EWDs? Another possibility is the AFM wiring. The wiper motor isn't switched so that's out. You don't need very big wire to just switch the relay, about 18 gauge should be fine and it's cheap.
