Electric vs Manual Choke - Weber 32/36 - 1987 22R

Hello all, I recently dove into the deep end (pretty new to working on vehicles with 4 wheels) and desmogged my 1987 Toyota Pickup, and installed a 32/36 among other things.

I, stupidly, purchased a Weber with an electric choke, and after much unsuccessful finagling am about ready to remove and burn it.

HOWEVER, before I make anymore rash decisions, I'd love to get yalls thoughts on the matter:

1. Has anyone had success running an electric choke on 22r?

2. Has anyone had MORE success converting an electric choke Weber to manual choke?

3. For those who answered yes to question 2, was is difficult? How'd you do it? How much cable do you need? ect.

Thanks everybody, I've recently subscribed to this forum and have been extremely impressed the collective knowledge base.

Let me know!

Does Weber offer a kit to convert to manual choke??

Never did that model but most times it involves swapping out some linkage.

What is wrong with your electric choke most are pretty simple?

The ones I have worked with and after initial set up work pretty well till something breaks

Hmm, I'll keep tinkering.

87yo_ta, what did you do for your initial setup?

Currently I've got an ignition hot wire of the original carb harness running to the choke. The tension set so that it just closes, and the high idle screw set to about 2k rpm with a warm engine. However, when I pump the gas, and start the car, neither the high idle or the choke seem to do anything. (it's starting to get cold here in portland maine)

Let me know if you have any ideas, I'll keep tinkering for now.

Thanks guys!

You might want to double check that wire you used has 12VDC when you need it??
