Exclamation Either oil leak or this things chugging oil

I checked the dip stick yesterday morning before working on the truck and the oil was nearly down to empty...well, it was on the very last line. I just did the oil change 2 or 3 weeks ago and it was full....what the heck!? It doesn't smoke at all. It's a 22r-e with 230,000; new oil change w/ Lucas and Castrol GTX and I just did a Tune-up.

How much oil did you put in? I believe the 22re is 4.5 qts. Can you see any visible leaks? If not it's probably burning it. With 230k miles on the clock it could be time for a rebuild.

yea i put 4.5 quarts in it. When i first got the truck, the bottom of the engine (oil pan and all) seemed pretty much covered in oil but I just pressure washed it off so I'll see if more builds up. If its time for a rebuild I might cry ... because I'm in college and broke .. but luckily summer work approaches but I'm suppose to be saving that for my wedding and all but ... I mean ... It's my yota :-)

Try putting some Castrol GTX 20W50 in it and see if that reduces consumption/leakage. I see that you're in Georgia so I imagine it will get pretty hot there so 20W50 should work well. I ran 20W50 in my 87 4Runner with 211,000 miles and in my 86 with 224,000. In the 80's 20W50 was reccomended for the 22r motors anyways.

It's probably just a tired old engine, just try the thicker oil and you should be fine for awhile.
