And really this is not going to gain much, unless, you do other modifications such as porting, cam, larger injectors, etc...
and then it needs to be programed to match the specific conditions and modifications to get the most out of it.
those out of the box chips are not really worth it. If you go to the lengths to do real modifications then you should get a programmable engine management.

When I got my truck I did tons of research on any open hardware hacks for the ECU. The stock toyota ecu is not able to be modded, like are fellow honda tuners. Mr Honda was pretty smart when he came out with his first line of ecu's found in 88-91 which would be OBD0. The factory main board actually had a 28 pin socket that you could run an external rom chip with different fuel maps and what not. Then Mr Honda made their obd-1 system, which was way better in respect for tuners, and actually was way more tuneable. Now the keyword here is tuneable. Honda's obd0 and obd1 computers came from the factory ready to be modified.
Toyota on the other hand has pretty much locked down their proprietary ECU's pretty darn good. The only thing that can be done with these types of ecu's are reflashing the stock firmware with newly updated code from Toyota. No hence this is impossible with the obd1 complaint systems. Which usually runs the 3.0 engines. Reflashing or interacting with the ecu's can be done on the OBD2 system, which is found in the new Taco's / 4Runners mostly running the 5vz engine. You can use the factory hardware which is called Tech Stream. You also have to have a special dealer license to get the updates.
You can find the info on

Now lets talk about piggy back systems.
They are crap!
Now lets talk about jet chips
More crap!
Now aftermarket ECU's
Now if you want to do it right. You're going to have to go with a aftermarket ecu. You want to look into Mega Squirt.

I know for sure Mega Squirt does have a plug in and play system for the 22RE engines. I've also read up on a Mr2 build using the 5vzfe engine and running the Mega Squirt ecu on it.
Also AEM maybe coming out with a full tuneable ECU for the 5vz engines as well. The real pain in the arse is Toyota's funkness to do different wiring over the years... You'd know about this if you have if you have started your 3.4 Swaps into your older truck...
