Dur, what's this wire do?

Tried installing a subwoofer and replacing all the factory speakers in the runner today. Hit some hiccups...

Problem #1: Basically there's no power to the rear speakers, wtf mate? Rear speakers as in the ones in the cargo bay that are enclosed in a black plastic vented box and amplified from within the box.

Problem #2: Possibly related to Problem #1.. This wire (see attached photographic evidence!) has no home! There is no receptor for this connector. No yin to this yang. I are wondering if it is a remote wire for the amplifiers in the rear speaker boxes?

white with a green stripe, seems to me, to be a ground. try jumping it to ground and see what happens. if you see a lot of sparks, that's not a ground

may be the either the positive or negative for the rear speaker, probably the negative.

I'm thinking tomorrow I'll find a nice bare spot of metal and see if I can get some sparks to fly and then have fun tracking down that illusive blown fuse. Thanks for suggestion!

I don't believe it's a speaker wire as those are all accounted for and already spliced into my wiring harness. But it's possible, I'll re-recheck my wiring tomorrow morning.

my 86 came with a factory working radio ( tape player) took it out. diagram said that lil clip was for the power supply backup

dont think it's changed to much, was the same in my 89 as well

What exactly is a power supply backup? Is that just a secondary 12V wire that is hot when the ignition is on then?

Do you know the output on the factory amps? If they exceed my headunit I might as well integrate them, but if they don't then I can see value in bypassing them.

they do not.. remember.. they were "banging" in 1995... its 2011 now... any stereo shop will bypass the factory amp as its not worth a darn.. Your new head unit over powers it.

That's probably true, and I've already removed the front factory amplifier so it would be unbalanced to have the rears amplified from the factory. Kind of an empty victory now that I'll be bypassing them but I just figured out how to integrate the rear speakers...

After some keen searching I discovered that the rear speaker amplifiers are triggered by the power antenna which is only powered when the radio is on, not when I am trying to listen to my iPod... The workaround is to connect the remote amplifier wire (essentially an ignition wire) from the headunit to the power antenna wire (the blue wire in the harness.)

As far as that other green/white wire goes I'm still stumped unless it truly is the power supply backup. In which case I'm still not sure what its purpose is

I'm pretty sure that's it--unless it's plugs into the cigarette lighter~

Provides power constantly so you don't lose your radio settings.
