the wire leading from battery to fuse box under the hood tends to crack with age and power washing. look for cracks there first and upgrade to some thicker stuff

Great....the distributor, the battery wire and the trailer wiring are good suspicious places to look....

TC....what are the "Big 3"?.....

Trustyrusty....totally agree....I do love to work on a clean engine.....that was the main goal of power washing.....

Noltz...agree woth you.....the big driver to purchase a Toyota was the reliability honor that they had earned in the market.....long time ago....I used to own a Nissan Sentra (my first experience with Japanese cars).....I drove it once through a flooded area....and the engine never stopped and worked fine....that was I was not pleasantly surprised by what happened with the 4Runner.....well....this is my first experience with my 4Runner.....still I have plenty of love left for it....working on it will increase my love for it.... :-) .....hope my wife does not read this.... ;-) .....

The Big 3 are the grounding system for the truck - battery to frame, battery to block and body to block. You will see bigger than normal ground wires going between those locations ... check to make sure the connections aren't corroded - mine were.

Here's a little info on wiring upgrades, I've seen better threads but in my very quick search it didn't pop out at me:

Women and Men of this forum....the truck is running.....while the battery was being charged with a local electrician....I sprayed all electrical connections with solvent to dry any humidity left....checked distributor....dry....check for any loose cables...OK...not peel cables either.....installed the battery back....and...RUN!!!!....I took it to the shop and the alternator is running fine....I will be checking the truck this week to see whether or not the problem gets back.....if not....I am scheduling my first 4X4 experience with my family this weekend.....a fishing trip to the beach!!!!!!!.....we are going to the where the Colorado River/Rio Grande/Río Bravo (the name changes through different regions) ends in the Gulf of México....they say fishing is good....time will tell....I will take pictures to log this first experience.....

Bless!!!!

i spray the whole works on a weekly basis with a steam cleaner at work. it doesnt need it but really at a detailing shop why not eat off your motor? the only time i have ever run into issues with this tequnique is with older beater vehicles with bad plug wires and poorly sealing dizzy caps. water makes them arc quite well. If your truck is in a good state of health pressure washign the motor is a non issue. One thing i really suggest is cleanign all the mud off from underneath anywhere it can sit and hold moisture, that leads to severe rusting if left longer than need be. if you truck is muddy wash it. dont leave it all summer caked in mud like the mall crawlers all over my town do. its a great way to trash a vehicle. Regular maintenance is your best friend.

To many wires. Pressurized water does not belong in the engine bay. If people want to do it, go for it. But I recomend that you don't.
