Exclamation dont understang compression

so i recently purchased a 1994 4 runner sr5 V6 5seep 4x4. ( besides the r-22 i heard this was the next best to buy) and the person told me that it had a minor exhaust leak. i drove it home ( 52 miles up and down hills in california) and started to check it out. i have replaced the exhaust gasket on the drivers side hoping that would fix it... but no... so i went on to check out the exhaust so i removed the entire exhaust from the cat back, had it checked... and it was all good... now the 4runner runs, ive offroaded it, but it lacks power. i know what a blown HG sounds like, thats how my 91 4runner died.

now i did a tune up, thinking it was spark plugs ect... and nothing ( only a minor improvement. )

so the next step was the clutch slipping, but my brother suggested to check the compression cuz it was making a sound ( a low pop sound ) so cylinders 1 - 4 have 150 psi compression... cylinders 5 & 6 have around 30 psi... so now im lost... how can cylinders 1-4 have good compression and 5 & 6 have no compression at all???

BTW... i took off the valve cover to make sure the cam wasnt broken ( had happend to me on a 88 celica) and its good...

so any ideas... would help... if you need me to discribe anything... let me know.. and ill do the best.

could be blown headgaskets, could be mis adjusted valves. a leak-down test could point the finger at the culprit but if you can't do it, I might start with the valve adjustments considering the comment about 'popping' and lack of power.

true that, but would still need to do a leak down, or tear down the engine, to find those.
it only takes a few minutes, give or take the time to remove the valve covers, to check the valve lash / clearance.

as they said, could be many things. The 3.0 v6 best other then the 22r? Not in my opinion, 22re is the most bulletproof engine toyota has built, i think.

Or in my case, a burnt valve. Either way the cylinder heads have to come off.

To answer that question- it's the designation for Freon / refrigerant used in most household and commercial air-conditioning units as well as in most refrigerators and such... at least until recently.

well like I said, you can check the valve adjustments on 5 & 6 and at least rule that out.
after that, a leak down test is going to be the best option for finding the problem without tearing the engine apart.

Abe won't eat lunch with you...because he eats little kids on a regular basis

I had cracked rings on my #3 cylinder and I had a popping sound. You could also try squirting some oil into the cylinder and then do the compression test again!

I grew up in So Cal, I stopped and got gas 1 time in the 909, saw a midget with a mullet pumping gas into her wusstang....er.....rustang, and scared the hell outta me. After that, I avoided the 909 and all of Inland Empire like the plague.
