dome light help needed

I just added footwell lights (6 inch blue neon) to my 4Runner by snaking the footwell light wires over the headliner to the dome light. The left neon works as desired. However, the right neon doesn't. When I connect only one of the R side neon wires to the dome, the neon lights up and stays on even if the dome light is set to "OFF". If I connect the other R side neon wire, the dome light stays on no matter setting it is in, even "OFF". It was late, so maybe I was just tired and overlooking something.

hmmm...
sounds like maybe you got the wires on the right side reversed around or something... why not just run the wires for the right side footwell across the dash to the left side and connect them together there since the left side is working properly? Just make sure the right side is wired identical to the left and all should be good...
I had a similar headache when I was wiring my maplights... the dome light uses the body as ground the two feeder wires going to it are switched power from the door pin switches and constant power from fuse box... you probaly got the left one hooked to the switched power and the right hooked to the constant. Also the right side could be making a connection to ground somewhere which might cause the light to come on as well... It took me a bit of time to organize which was what especially with the maplights since they also have an isolation switch to keep the off all the time... lol...
