doing a rebuild have a few questions

Hello,

I have a few questions concerning clutchs and head gaskets.

What im doing is rebuilding a 22rte to replace a 22re in my 1986 pickup.

First question, the clutch! I have the facory 5 speed. Do i need to get a clutch for my pacific year or do i need a special clutch for my application? Im thinken i can just order the clutch for my pacific year. I just need confermation on it. Dont want to order then have to take it back.

Second question, the head gasket. I ordered a complete gasket set from the dealership. They showed me what my head gasket will look like. It has metal around all the cylinders an such but the rest of it is like a synthetic fiber gray in color. Is this the correct gasket for this engine? I keep reading articles that state "use a metal head gasket".

Any input or advice on these matters would be much appreciated, thx in advance

BTW, you have an awsome site here....

Thx Scott

yea, the greyish material is a hy-brid metal , i think it's mainli a copper plate like material covered in the grey metal mix.

Your going to need a computer from a turbo truck for the turbo engine to run properly in your 86 truck. you can use a standard clutch also.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the flywheel and clutch pressure plate a little larger for the turbo motor and it's transmission?

when I ordered a clutch from Marlin Crawler during the rebuild of my 22re non turbo, I was sent the wrong pressure plate; it was about 3/4 inch too big in diameter. After speaking with the guys are Marlin and giving them the part number for the pressure plate I received, they told me it was for a turbo 22re, and they were different.

I'm sure it all depends on the transmission that's bolted up, so I would do some research and make sure you're ordering the right clutch for the transmission
