Not enough for what they charge for it. It's not a mod that will ever pay for itself, thats for sure. I got a K&N filter a while back....I like not having to change them if I'm in a dusty caravan or something, but I know Amsoil filters are even better. I don't know if there is one for 22RE or not. I'd like to get one tho.

I put one on one of my older trucks, in combination with a header. Not sure if it was one thing, the other, or both together, but it seemed to squeak out some better throttle response and my mileage went up. Lots of the guys on here will tell you not to get it, that it lets too much dust and crap through. I never had that problem, and used it in some pretty bad conditions, but I was good about oiling it and washing regularly. I haven't heard anything good about the drop in filters, but the FIPK you are looking at doesn't seem to have the same poor fit problems.

Amsoil doenst make one :-(, but I am getting a TrueFlow before my next wheeling adventure. I will use my K&N for street, but not the trail.

i have a k&n fipk on my truck and compared to my freinds truck that had the stock air box mine had a little more power and better thorrtle response

There was a K&M drop-in installed on mine when I bought it... it seems like it does the job, and being cleanable is a plus.

I like mine. Maybe it is in my head, but I do feel a little better throttle response than before I had it. I have had mine for many years with no problems. And you really are not supposed to clean them very often, according to the recharger kit. It says right on the box,
"Performance hints: Service every 50.000-100,000 miles on street driven applications. Service more often in off-road or heavy dust conditions. Let the dirt "build up" work for you; it will not hurt the performance and actually help filter the air."
I only clean mine once every couple of years, or when it looks really nasty. Plus, I really like the way they sound! A strong suction noise when you first step on the gas, and the engine sounds more throaty.

I'll chime in here. I did the deckplate, ISR, and TRD filter (essentially the same thing as a K&N FIPK) all in the same day, and there was a definite noticable difference in throttle response and hp. I'm not talking 20 horses here, but it was definitely more peppy. And I second Bobakazi....it sounds way cooler...

This is a cool thread b/c there are a lot of haters on this board about the FIPK for 3rd gens. Gadget even has a dyno that shows it loses power.

All that said, it was one of my first mods and I like it. Better throttle response, looks cool and sounds meaner. Haven't had the same issues that others have had w/ it fouling up the maf. Overall, it was worth it to me.

I didn't spend a load and get a KN, but I got a cheaper "copy cat" and it helped out. I did the stock air box removal and all that. When you dive into it, you see how little air the stock box gets. It makes it a little louder I think, but I think it responds a little better. I don't think my mileage went up very much if at all.

i'd rather run no filter than run a K&N. sure, it won't keep the larger rocks out of your engine, but you save $50...

this is funny...WHEN i HAD MY 94 Jeep XJ, I ran an FIPK and it was great. Helped with power and mileage, but with the Toy (3.4), it sounded meaner, but I threw a CEL and got worde MPG. I think it depends on the vehicle and motor

It's probably similar to the TBS issue. My buddy with a Chevy Vortec put one on and it dyno'd at something like 15 more hp. But for the Toyotas, we get zip. I blew money on a TBS when I first got my truck and other than an interesting whistle that sounds like a turbo spooling up, it really didn't make a difference. But when I did the Deckplate, ISR, TRD filter... It was definitely different, both sound wise, and in throttle response, and I did notice that once I got to 3400 RPMs, man that thing would kick!

I had the FIPK on my 92 toyota. I was running 4 suspension 3 body and 35 inch tires. I felt a greater throttle response and saw a slight improvement in my gas mileage.

I now have a 91 toyota ( again with the 3.0L ) but I did Cootees ISR Tube. I saw a very noticeable increase in gas mileage. I haven't dont any other mods to go along with or changed out my filter. I think this is an easier route to gain the same improvements. I like the fact that I'm not sucking hot air into my intake anymore.

I wont diss the FIPK, but I think there are cheaper solutions.
