If the signal generator aka pick up coil is going, does the check engine light come on?

 

"IGF signal from igniter is not input to ECM for 4 consecutive ignition." gives code 14.

But the signal could be weak enough to cause drivability concerns, but not weak enough to throw a code. The "lack" of a code is not very helpful, diagnostically.
