......I've got a new tranny and transfer case from Marlin in my 88 Runner, it's a 5sp and everything works till I try to disengage 4WD. The only way to get the shifter out of 4WD is to unlock the hubs and rock back and forth then once it slides out it can go back in and out no problem. The only thing I haven't replaced is the front CV's and bearings.......any ideas??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.........TIM

 

are both tires up front the EXACT same?

 

mine does that on occasion. Its normal to do it every now and again, as there is tension on the TCase. Does it do it everytime?

 

When ever I try to shift out of 4wd in the 4runner it doesn't want to. Its always done it, the first time I put mine into 4wd and put it back into 2wd my Dad was in the truck and told me to put the truck in first gear, let the clutch out a little, just enough to grab, but not really move the truck then push the lever up into 2wd, its feels like it the gears inside the t-case have to line up, I'm not sure how everything works inside there, but thats how it works in my truck. Hmmmm, well it never used to do it, so I was worried that I was hurting my new tranny and transfer case. All tires are the same size, maybe a little more wear on some but since the new tranny/transfer it has done it every time. Just seems like a ton of tension up front......

 

when i first got the truck, the 4WD hadn't been engaged in a while. The first few times getting out of 4WD was a nightmare.

Since then, I drained the transmission and Tcase lube, and replaced the fluids, Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 GL-5 in the Tcase, and Amsoil 75w-90 GL4 syncromesh gear lube in the transmission. I've also been wheeling a bit more. Now the switch between 4WD >> 2WD is much easier, and the shifting is silky to boot!
