Desel engines

I've also done the swap to the 3.0L TD and love it. I'd like the manual transmission set up but so far it's just been too pricey. So I'd like to know what a bell housing and clutch would cost, and well I guess everything else I could source over here. Jarco used to import stuff here but I think they ran into customs problems after a while. If you could get stuff over here I'm sure people would get it, but they definitely need the transmissions with them cause the bolt pattern on the 1KZ's (3.0LTD) is different from every other toyota engine from what I understand. I just recently over the Christmas holidays applied for and got a diesel title for my truck in GA, which has emissions testing. So you can still legally swap them over and stay registered.

like i said mate its had a fair bit done to it, its far from standard in the engine dept, when the cam belt snapped it had a full engne rebuild from bottom up, hks do some uprated parts for the hilux such as cranks and cams and pistons. although not cheap the hks stuff works a treat, also like i said it has been chipped and the boost upted and the diesel pump has been tweaked to get it to 150bhp.

I took the cheaper/easier route and swapped my 2.4 diesel for a 4.0 Lexus V8. Around 250bhp and 260ft/lbs in standard trim.

cool mate yours must shift with that lump in there, how hard was the v8 swap? ive done mine beacuse its diesel and got a good bit poke now, she was a slug before, whats the fuel bill on the v8?

MPG is exactly the same as it was with the 2.4 diesel, around 22mpg. as the V8 is all aluminum and weighs about 100kgs less than the diesel motor and of course it takes a lot less effort to get the truck up to cruising speed.
There's a photo in the 'Show your pics' thread on here, page 32 I think.

Wasn't that hard really, just took a lot of measuring and chin scratchin'. I bought a complete LS400 cheap so I had everything the motor needed to get it running in the truck.

Thanks again for this service you're providing Craig... my mech keeps poo poo-ing the diesel switch because of the cost/benefit but I've heard about those aussie chips for the 3.0TD that make it a lot more drivable and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts/impressions...

mine however being the 2.4 was a complete dog before i modded it slightly, the chip i used was a super chip supplied by das tek. its gave the lux ,more get up and go and the tourque increased aswell which is cool, it also dropped down on emmisions and is slighty better on fuel running in the30s mpg area depending on driving style.
ive had very few probs with the 2lte engine but there are a few common faults with them.
the older gen2 suffer from cylinder heads cracking which isnt a hard fix but can be costly.
you need to keep upto scratch on cam belts aswell if that goes new cylinder head,
some peeps run veg oil if your gona go this route keep your fuel filters clean regulary changed or they can cause probs with the diesel pump/filter/injectors etc
and a few other niggly things, in general though my 2,4 is rock solid and bullit proof no complaints at all. i can have a look at the 3.0td and get back to you all on this engine and find out the does and donts if you all like.

I'm just curious as to how expensive it is to get your injectors tested and rebuilt with new nozzels over there. I just had mine done and they came to $440 for the 4. They all needed new nozzels and the opening pressures were all really low. Want to see if I got ripped off or not. Also how much is a thermostat? The fuel filters can be got here for $19.30 from Napa, but can't get the oil filters except from Toyota of Dallas and its like the air filters don't exist at all. I found a K&N filter that is right for the KZN130. And once I get money on the go this summer I'll definately be looking to get the 5 speed in there and just need the bellhousing, and clutch stuff for it. They use the R150F tranny and that is what is on my V6 right now so wont need that.
This really is great that you are willing to help us out with these diesels.
Thanks.
