Decision crate engine vs ???

Hi, I have a 93 4wd pickup.V6 145,000 miles. The engine has I think a head gasket leak. I've had it worked on twice by someone who made it worse. I have limited funds but found a $1990.00 crate engine on ebay. I also found a mechanic on craigslist to do the work. My quandary is whether to do that or just buy a used truck and sell mine as is. btw, I'm 74 years old or I would do the work myself, just not up to it anymore.
Any views would be helpful.

Thanks

Im 68 and don't do all my own work anymore either. What kind of shape is your pickup in? Is it worth putting 2k plus labor in. Will this mechanic be any better than the others? What can you buy in your area that you can afford? Are you sure you need a complete engine? Who says so? Are they smart enough to find thier butt with both hands? I can't answer these questions only you can do that. Just food for thought. Answer them and I think you will know what to do. Good luck to ya.

You have pics of your 93?
how nice is it? Fair, good, excellent, pristine?
these trucks bring VERY good money IF they aren't rust buckets and torn up...
it can be worth $1500 to $ 15,000 depending on condition.
your truck is "collectible"
SO, is it worth it or not? Pics will help us help you decide.
145k miles is not that high of mileage for a 93 just a smidgen over 5k miles a year.

What a dilemma, depending upon crate manufacturer and their warranty I would be inclined to go with a fresh re-manufactured engine as opposed to a used? I purchased a crate engine thru ebay with a engine re-builder out of the state of Washington, as opposed to majority of the shops who offered limited, if any warranty. The created engine came with a 7 year or 100k mile warranty, whether the mechanic U use would meet the manufacturers criteria would be an issue may want to explore, I installed the engine so the warranty was mute however, after working with the shops support staff I felt comfortable this was 9 years ago and expect for recent replacing the water pump is running very well.

Hahaha. My ex used to say I could not find my &** with both hands AND a flashlight!!

Seriosly tho, how clean is your frame? For me personal, that's the biggest thing. Everything else is fixable.

What, you mean I have to use BOTH hands??
I don't know about that. One hand, yeah, given a little time, but BOTH hands?? I may be getting out of my depth with that...

Have fun, gang!

Im still looking. I apparently have more hands than I need. Ain't we glad we don't have to talk about what an x had to say about anything. I've little time for those kind of folks.
