cylinder clean up

putting in the new cam and found a broken timing chain guide AT 60K MILES! moral of the story: never too early to check, especially if you're going in to do other things anyway.
need a bit of advice. how have you guys cleaned up any smaller crap that fell into the cylinders while working off the head and gasket? i don't want any of it scoring the walls. should i rotate the crank and hope the rings ease up the garbage, then remove? i've been vacuuming and using a "stiff" brush to free up anything in there up to now. the block's ready for the gasket once this is done.
also, the oil pump came off, and apart, when removed. do i need to line up the marks before it goes back on? doesn't seem to make any difference to my eyes, just checking.
BTW, for anyone replacing the timing chain/guides, or installing a cam, these guys here at yotatech give you pics, step by step and better advice than both the FSM and haynes combined. thanks guys.

To get the crap out of the cylinders, use a blow gun on the compressor if you have one...

I don't recall on the oil pump - did you check the FSM?

Good luck

wanted to be sure i wasn't forcing anything beyond the top ring with compressed air. i'll give 'er a go.
FSM doesn't show lining up any marks, not sure why they're there, hence my question. but looks straightforward, didn't want to miss the obvious.
thanks, i'll forge ahead.
