Coolant in throttle body???
22re
I pulled the air intake hose and there seems to be coolant in front of the throttle body plate...
and the idle is high after warm up
could the AAC, go that bad and cause all of this?
the truck also has very little power after. We did a HG replacement just recently, and I have no idea what the power was like before. Just comparing to my 84 22r 4runner
thanks

What year is this 22re you are working on? Earlier years will have a different idle air valve than later. If yours is the type integrated with the TB (thermal wax type, the later) it does indeed sound like the valve has gone bad. There's another fellow on the forum that had the same problem a while back.
Also, you might need to change the oil when you've fixed the problem. Have a look.

if the IAV/AAV has the coolant passages to it, and you're getting coolant in the throttle body, there really isn't any other place it could come from... unless the radiator overflow is blowing coolant out and it's getting sucked through the air filter.

I ask because it's not so fun to get to. Like Abe said, it could only most likely be that, but the nature of replacing is different than the latter style.
Check with DeathCougar for a good, used one. He's a member of this forum. In fact, a moderator. He works for Nix99 used Toyota parts.......which you can google and find the online store, but PM'ing him is just as effective.

If it's the coolant heated one, then it's easiest to replace the whole throttle body (and since it's 87, that's likely the one you have).
Earlier ones were a sliding/rotating valve with a tapered opening heated by wire, not coolant. They're problem was that they were separate from the engine so they often thought the engine was cold when it was really warm (since they were exposed to air intstead of coolant).

you could try pulling the TB and flushing the passages out, just don't mess with the screws that adjust the tension on the springs, else you could be causing it to bypass too much or not enough air.

sounds like I need to bypass the whole thing... coolant going into the intake is not cool..
I pulled the aar thing to take a look at it.. and tried to reseal some of it..but I am still getting coolant going into the intake.
going to plug the hose and the barb on the throttle body and see how the truck runs then, hope fully I will just have a low idle at start up and after its warmed up

That's all the air valve is for is supplementary air when the motor's cold so it will idle higher and burn fuel better until it's warm. So, that's all you will have trouble with.......provided you have no other issues.
