Coolant temp gauge question

Ok so just bought a 92 Toyota pickup 22RE engine is new with papers and warranty but when I drive it the temp gauge goes Alittle over the half mark for about 2-3 mins then goes back down I'm wondering if this is normal of these trucks ? I figure it's the thermostat opening up but is it getting to hot before it opens ? Any help would be nice thanks.

Temp overshoot on warmup is common on these 22re trucks.

Probably does'nt hurt anything, but there is a Toyota 2 stage thermostat that is supposed to minimise this phenom.
