Hello new to the forum. But as the title says I’m having a coolant leak. So I spun a rod bearing a few months ago and opted for a rebuilt long block from a local shop. After installing the motor and getting everything bolted down when adding my liquids I sprung a leak from the rear of the engine. Took off the intake manifold and plenum and there was a puddle of coolant in the center of the block. Looks like it’s coming from rear passenger side of the intake gasket. Replaced gaskets with oem and still leaking. I’m at a loss. Any help is appreciated. Sorry it’s a 1990 4Runner with a 3vze
It could be the coolant bypass line in the middle of the V or the one the flows through the throttle body, I've had 2 go bad on the TB so I just bypassed it. Hopefully it's not one of the freeze plugs, they're a bear to remove and I've seen brand new ones leak. Consider picking up a cheap borescope from Harbor Freight so you can slip it in there and see for yourself while the engine is running, pulling off that manifold is a bear when you still have EGR and stuff.
Appreciate the help Saturn. The bypass pipe is dry and it’s only puddling up in the center chamber of the v. I looked at it alil harder today and was thinking maybe the back bracket of the bypass pipe isn’t letting the plenum sit flush. When I removed the the bypass from my old block it was missing the bolt in the rear of the block so I added one. I’ll see if that helps and let you guys know
So I was tinkering with the truck again this morning and still leaking coolant out of the back and in the v. Does it look like it’s coming from the the head gasket?
