Code 14

Was out checking the timing on my 3VZE and when I jumped TE1 and E1, I noticed that I had a code set in there, even though the CEL has never come on.

It flashed Code 14 which I looked up and it's, Igniter signal to ecu missing.

First off what exactly does this mean, and is it possible for the engine to be running without a signal from the igniter to the ECU? Is it possible that this happened intermitantly and stored a code, but wasn't a constant problem?

Is there a way to clear the codes so that I can see if this comes back?

Thanks.

Has anybody ever had a code 14 before?

Trying to figure out exactly what it means and what I have to do to fix it.

Thanks.

your rig can not run without a signal from igniter to ecu... Its prolly just an old code that was never cleared, but...If u have ever had trouble starting the rig, or had misfire, it could also cause this code, and ur igniter may be on its way out, or where it bolts to the body may need to be cleaned up to make sure it has a good ground....

Clear the code... Pull the 15amp efi fuse in the block under the hood for 30-60 sec, then run it, and see if it comes back...

Thanks Team420, did you do any celebrating on Wednesday, 4/20?

Yeah I noticed the igniter has been replaced, it's got an aftermarket on it, so the code may be from a while back when the original igniter went.

But on the other hand, this engine starts like crap when "warm", after having sat for anything longer than a 1/2 hour - 3 hours. Cranks like hell then stumbles to life. Starts great when ice cold or real hot, like after having been shut off for only a few minutes.

I wonder if that warm starting issue could be a weak igniter, and it's throwing the code, although I don't know if an igniter would only be weak when warm, and be fine when cold and hot. I also have pretty crappy cold driveability, stumbles pretty bad when shifting until it gets a bit of heat in it, then it's fine. Maybe my igniter is crapping out.

I'll clear the code and see what happens. Do OBD1 codes stay in until they are cleared, or will they eventually clear themselves?

Thanks.

no prob.... celebrate? every day is 4/20 for me

The codes will stay there until cleared, If u are having start issue... it could b the after market igniter causing it.... I'd stay o.e.m. with that type of thing, but... u could also pull it out, and clean up where it bolts to the body... a wire brush should do the trick... if its at all rusted/corroded there, it will affect the igiters ability to ground....

So.... clear the code, and drive for a couple days.... check to see if the code comes back... if not... keep on truckin.... if it does, Id clean the ground, and start checkin the wiring.

Good luck!
