How can the clutch MC and the hose be on the pass side when the clutch pedal is on the drivers side unless we are talking about 2 diff things ?

I have the V6 and mine is on drivers but it is a 2WD

I thought we were talking about the hydraulic line to the slave cylinder .................
Maybe I am confused again

i was gonna agree with you, but i just walked out to my garage, an yea the pedal and MS are on the driver side, but from there (on my 92 4x4 v6) its a hardline along the firewall to the passenger side, then it turns into a hose.... Toyota engineers probably did this because of the exhaust crossover- tremendous heat on the driver side. Fortunately, i havent had a problem with mine an its at 150k...yea yea still a baby!

Its raining here for the first time in moths (substantailly that is) so I will check mine visually again tomorrow but if memory serves me right it just goes straight down.

Yeah, my hydraulic line is metal coming from the MC (driver's side) and going into the SC (passenger's side)... I don't know if there's rubber in the middle, but I haven't seen any and it would quite make sense to me for there to be.

I'll probably end up going with the mechanic I talked to. Now to find someone around here to give me a tow 2 miles to save $100 :o

It sounds to me like its just time to replace the disk and/or pressure plate. mine made a squeeking noise when i depressed the pedal when i first got my truck, i thought i just had to lube the bushing on the MC but a few weeks later the disk died completely. Replaced it and noise was gone.

How many miles are on the disk? if you start the vehicle in gear does it move forward? Id just go pick up a clutch kit for like 245 from napa and do it yourself, its a pain in the ass with work and school but if you just sit down with a buddy and pay attention to what your doing/use the right tools you can do it fairly quickly.

Maybe it's the difference between 2WD and 4WD. I've replaced a bunch of them on V6 4WD trucks and 4Runners (and they are on the pass side) But I may have never changed one on a V6 2WD. I may not have changed one on a 4cyl 4WD either.

HMMM....

I'm sure not feeling very sure right now.
