Clicking Sound

In my 94 Toyota Pick up, Ex cab, 4X4 I have developed a noise that appears to be coming from the rear seating area inside the truck that will occasionly sound like a rachet clicking. It will be intermitting and will last from 2 or thtee clicks to sometimes 10 or 20 clicks but never long enough for me to diagnose where it's coming from. Sometime louder than others and never when I'm trying to locate it. Has no noteable causes just at random times!! Anyone had this problem or been able to find out what is causing it. It's about to drive me crazy even though no further than I'd have to go to be there, I could walk!! Thanks!!

It's probably the solenoids in the auto tranny. They normally make that sound. You likely heard it once and now you listen for the sound. Try listening for it to happen each time you come to a complete stop,,or when stopped, going from Reverse to Drive, etc.

This is usually happening at highway speeds and never at stops or take offs that I've noticed. never around shift points that I've caught always after all shifts and lock up is completed!! Thanks for the reply and I'll try to pay special attention to it around shift point but it has fairly loud exhaust and I could be missing it!! Thanks again!!

welcome to my world, lol never ever happens when you need it to. in fact, if you make a point to pull into the lot of a car shop or dealer every day, you will never hear the sound again!
