Chain transfer case part ?

Ok I know I need a pic but I'm at work. I can snap one when I get home but hopefully someone will know what I am talking about. In the second gen 4runner/3rd gen pickup with the 3.0 and 5-speed, what is that weight-type piece that attaches at the rear of the transfer case? Trying to figure out it's purpose. Reason I ask is that I removed mine since I have the bud-built skid and I am wondering if I shouldn't have.

It is a harmonic damper of sorts. It is made to stop or reduce some sort of vibration that the drivetrain produces.

If the engineers didn't think it was necessary, they wouldn't have installed it on the truck.

Thank you! I was wondering if it did something like that. I have noticed some vibrations and was wondering if that was it.

Much appreciated!
