Cb in the ash tray of a 2nd gen
first i don't know if this is where i should post this sorry if it's in the wrong area.
Ok so i have seen it done and would like to put a cb where my ash tray is. i'm looking to spend as little as possible i don't need something with huge range (1 mile) just one that works ok. and what kind of antenna do i need.
Thanks
Tom

I'm not sure, but I think Uniden makes a model that's around 50.00; and I'm not sure about the antenna, I just used what I could scour up.

That's where mine is. I had a RadioShack, but it was acting up, so I just recently got a new one. Bought it at a T/A truckstop - they had 3 models, a Cobra ($30 after $10 rebate), a Midland ($35), and a Uniden ($40). The Cobra and Midland were both 4watts, but had PA, RF Gain, and some other fancy features. I went with the Uniden because it's 7W even though it has less "features". Seems to work pretty well.
I used Wilson fiberglass antennae, but broke two of them and switched to a stainless mid load whip by Hustler. It is holding up VERY well.

I installed mine there, since I was missing the ashtray anyway. It fits perfectly, like it was meant to be there, with a little trimming of the back. Mine is the small Midland model, but with everything else it added up to about $80. Sorry, no pictures at this time...

I just did this mod to my T100, same ashtray I think.
You need a cobra cb radio. All I had to do was remove the assembly and cut off a bit to make the cb fit and then I simply screwed it right into the plastic mounts that were there.
I ran my CB wire to an auxillary fusebox I made under the hook, but at first i had it connected tot he lighter which worked pretty well to.
I have a 4ft firestick II antenna I mounted on my toolbox and on a good day I can pick up pretty far away, about 5 miles or more I think. I used a spring mount ont he actual molded plastic mount. I brused a ton of trees and no damage yet.

Heres a link to another cb install under your stereo.
http://www.mudrunner.ca/cb.html
Also here's a link to the best place I have found to get the cobra that fits there. Either one will work.

Just thought I'd throw this out there for you.

Uniden sells them on their site. I got this CB new for $35.99.

There might be cheaper prices out there though.

i'm not a fan of putting CB in the dash. i put mine in the gap between the passenger seat and the center console. no bolt, no screw, no tape, simplely just drop it in. one good thing about this location is that it's very handy when changing channels, i don't have to reach to the front.

That's kinda what I was thinking until I read the manual closer ... I'll have to scan it and see if I was reading it right...
