Well, can I? I took the plenum off today and the thick paper gasket between the plenum and the intake broke. can I just rtv this. I would just try it but Id rather ask since I dont feel like tearing it down it again. this is a 88 3.0 5spd runner

Why not just go get a new plenum gasket? They're about 5 bucks at napa. If you go the rtv route, make sure you get the bead perfectly even and consistent. You don't want the plenum uneven at all. With rtv you also run the risk of parts of it breaking off and ending up in your valves and so on.

k, I didnt think they were cheap and the parts stores in chicago are closed. the intake gasket is like 80$ so I figured the plenum gasket would be somewhat comparable. Thanks guys.

I was just checking out the napa website. I looked up a plenum gasket for your 88 3.0 and the price was $7.49. I looked up the same gasket for my 95 3.0 and it was $3.99. Odd.

hmm, maybe has something to do with asbestos. In 90 I beleive, auto makers werent aloud to used asbestos in their gaskets anymore. and they had to redesign alot of their gaskets. which is a major reason for the 3.0 hg issues, which tend to affect the 90+ years much more. Atleast thats how I understand it.
